Update #1 (Post-jam)

It's been a while since I published this game, and a lot has happened! I've been planning on updating this game, but it wouldn't be fair to fix and/or add stuff while the jam's voting process was ongoing. But now that its over, lets go with it!

This update wouldn't have been possible without you guys. All the feedback I received during the voting period was super helpful and invaluable to the process of improving this game, it made me notice things I missed, think of new stuff to add, and better balance the overall experience. because yeah the game sure was difficult!

Again, thanks to everyone that took their time and tried my game, and specially thanks to those who wrote any sort of comment. It truly made me happy to know so many people enjoyed the game overall.

Now, finally, all the juicy changes and additions...

Changelog:

  • General:
    • Added some more detailed numbers to the stats/pause screen. You should now be able to know the current gun's damage value, max ammo capacity and time to reload in seconds.
    • Added the current room number to the stats/pause screen.
  • Player character:
    • Added new animations to looking around without moving.
    • Added a "splatter" effect when hit.
    • Added a "break" effect to the keys in the HUD when hit.
    • Increased the jump buffer limit. This should help to make the jumping feel more consistent.
    • Added a new stat: "Critical Chance"
      • Each bullet now has a chance to deal double damage.
      • Initial base chance is 5%
  • Guns:
    • Adjusted every weapon's bullet spawn point. Now bullets should properly appear from the gun's tip.
    • Changed the recoil animation for a more interesting one.
    • Changed the shooting sfx so that it has a slight pitch variation.
    • When bullets hit an enemy, a small text will appear showing the damage dealt.
    • Pistol:
      • Reduced damage.
      • Increased reload speed a bit.
      • Increased fire rate a bit.
      • Incresed clip size (max ammo).  7 -> 10
      • Increased bullet speed a bit.
      • Changed its sprite and icon to look more like a handgun. It looked similar to a revolver, which was troubling because....
    • Revolver (NEW):
      • "Like the pistol, but stylish"
      • More damage than pistol.
      • More accurate than pistol.
      • Faster bullet speed than pistol.
      • Slower fire rate than pistol.
      • Slower reload speed than pistol
      • Smaller clip size (6).
    • SMG:
      • Decreased damage a bit.
      • Increased accuracy.
    • Blunderbuss (NEW):
      • "Defeat enemies with a powerful single shot, old-style"
      • High bullets per shot
      • High spread
      • Very small clip size
      • Slow reload speed
  • Enemies:
    • "Bat"
      • Movement speed reduced.
    • "Spitter"
      • Shoot delay increased a bit (Shoots less often).
      • Bullet speed decreased a bit.
      • Added animation for shooting.
    • "Blob"
      • No longer jumps full distance when the player is near.
      • Added a bit of randomness to the jump distance when the player is far. This should help to avoid Blobs stacking into each other.
    • "Boss"
      • Fixed a bug that made it get stuck, for some reason.
      • *Still doesn't do anything else*
  • Doors:
    • Fixed a bug that let you skip rooms by spamming the interact key.
    • "Random Door"
      • Adjusted the randomness so that it should be less probable to go through Upgrade or Gun rooms consecutively.
  • Rooms:
    • Some walls/platforms are thinner now. Should help the player move easier. Also helps the "Blob" enemies to not be stuck as much when jumping.
    • "Upgrade Room"
      • Now the available upgrades shouldn't be of the same type.
    • "Guns Room"
      • Now the available guns shouldn't be the same kind, and neither the one currently equipped.
      • Added a 3rd choice: It lets you keep your current gun for 1 Key.
  • Upgrades:
    • Added more versions of the already existing upgrades.
    • Added the "Critical Chance" upgrade.
